The $1.41 billion design-build Terminal One project is a new 1 million-square-foot, 33-gate domestic terminal that will replace the existing Terminal A. The project features an open and modern layout, expanded amenities, a more efficient check-in process and ample space for travelers. Once completed, the project is anticipated to meet LEED Silver. At the time of construction, this project is the largest transportation infrastructure design-build contract in New Jersey state history.
Base Design Group was brought onto the design-build team early in the design phase to provide specialized structural engineering services for the cold formed steel framing through an on-going collaborative process. Cold formed steel structural assemblies included exterior curtainwall framing, roof and associated bearing wall framing, elevator guide rail and hoist beam support conditions as well as interior suspended ceiling systems throughout the terminal.
