The new 102,525 s.f., 5-story hotel was constructed near Boston’s Logan Airport and was the first new hotel in East Boston in 14 years. The building construction consisted of a first level structural steel podium supporting four levels of cold-formed steel floor and roof joists on cold-formed steel bearing walls. The cold-formed steel wall panels, floor joists, roof joists, trusses and special cornice features were prefabricated and shipped from an off-site warehouse.

Base Design Group worked with the build teams in the Delegated Design and Construction phases of the project to provide specialty structural engineering services for the four stories of cold-formed steel floor joist, roof joist and bearing wall assemblies. Base Design Group also provided analysis and design of the structure’s primary lateral force resisting system for the four stories above the podium level.
