Specialty Structural Engineering through an Integrated Project Delivery method

The new 640,000 s.f. inpatient facility was designed and built using a highly collaborative integrated project delivery (IPD) method. Base Design Group was brought onto the team to leverage our experience and specialized knowledge of cold-formed steel design and construction. The IPD method allowed the team to collaborate when tackling the unique structural challenges of the envelope construction in an effort to prepare the primary structure to efficiently receive and support the secondary framing assembly systems. As a result, exterior wall panels were able to be prefabricated and shipped from an off-site warehouse factory in Portland, which allowed the building envelope to be closed in early, saving the owner thousands of dollars in temporary heating costs alone.

The success of this project is credited to all parties fully engaging in the philosophy and culture of IPD and has resulted in a change in the way major healthcare projects are delivered through collaboration for these design firms.
